Acupan
What is it?
An analgesic non-narcotic drug available in the form of white tablets or as a solution for injection. Contains 30mg nefopam hydrochloride, tablets being marked APN. (Injection contains 20mg nefopam hydrochloride per ml in each ampoule. )
Medical Uses
Relief of moderate and severe pain, e. g. following surgery, muscle and joint pain, dental cancer.
Dosage
Tablets 3 times per day, adults only, total dose in the order of 30 to 90mg. Injection, 1 20mg dose intramuscularly 3 tines a day.
Special Care
Elderly patients (1 tablet, 3 times a day initially), pregnant women, patients with kidney or liver disorders or suffering from urine retention.
Avoid Use
Children, history of convulsions or heart attack (myocardial infarction) and Also, glaucoma.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Drugs including sympathomimetics, tricyclics, anticholinergics and MAOIs (antidepressants).
Known Side Effects
Nervousness, irritability, dry mouth, dizziness and nausea, headaches. Occasionally insomnia, irregular heartbeat and sweating. Urine may be tinged pink.
