Adcal-D3

What is it?

A combined supplement of calciumn and vitamin D3.Contains 1500mg calcium carbonate and 400iu. Vitamin D3, as white tablets that are chewed. Also, ADCAL: a preparation of calcium alone containing 1500mg calcium carbonate, as white, chewable tablets.

Medical Uses

Adcal-D3: for vitamin D3 and calcium deficiency in elderly persons, additional therapy in osteoporosis, vitamin D dependent osteomalacia and as supplement during pregnancy. ADCAL: for persons deficient in calcium, renal failure where there is phosphate binding.

Dosage

Adults: 2 tablets each day, 1 in morning and 1 in evening. For phosphate binding (ADCAL), as directed by specialist according to levels of phosphate.

Special Care

Elevated calcium levels in urine (must be monitored), mild kidney failure. Calcium levels and kidney excretion of calcium is monitored.

Avoid Use

Very high levels of calcium in urine or blood, severe kidney disorders, kidney stones, over-active parathyroid glands.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Barbiturates, cardiac glycosides, thiazide diuretics, phennytoin, corticosteroids. If patient is taking iron supplement or tetracycline antibiotic, allow 3 hours to elapse be fore taking ADCAL-D3 or ADCAL. If taking sodium fluoride or biphosphonates, allow 2 hours to elapse.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upset.
