Ametop
What is it?
A gel for external use containing 4% amethocaine.
Medical Uses
Local anaesthesia prior to inserting needle or cannula into a vein (venepuncture, venous cannulation). May be used in out-patient clinics etc.
Dosage
Children and adults; 1 tube is applied to skin where anaesthesia is required and the area is then covered with a dressing. Numbness is achieved in 30 to 45 minutes and lasts for 4 to 6 hours.
Special Care
Do not apply to broken skin, avoid ears, eyes and mucous membranes.
Avoid Use
New born infants less than 1 month old.
Known Side Effects
Minor, local skin reactions and irritation. If blistering occurs, gel must be removed.
