Amias

What is it?

An antihypertensive and angiotensin II antagonist, candesartan cilexetil, available as white tablets in strengths 2mg, 4mg (scored), 16mg (scored) and pink tablets (8mg, scored).

Medical Uses

Hypertension.

Dosage

4mg per day to start. 8mg per day for maintenance to a daily maximum of 16mg.

Special Care

Severe kidney impairment, narrowing of renal artery, aorta or mitral valve, obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; correct volume/salt depletion before treatment.

Avoid Use

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe liver disfunction, disruption of bile flow (cholestasis).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Lithium, potassium supplements and diuretics.

Known Side Effects

Back pain, infection of the upper respiratory tract. Any adverse reaction should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines.
