Amsidine
What is it?
A cytotoxic, antibiotic, anticancer preparation containing amsacrine. This is available as a preparation for intravenous infusion for use by a physician skilled in caner therapy. Amsidine concentrate contains 5mg amsacrine (as lactate) per ml when reconstituted.
Medical Uses
Acute myeloid leukaemia.
Dosage
As directed by physician. Usually no more than 450mg/square metre of body surface area as a total cumulative dose.
Special Care
Patients with cardiac disorders, liver or kidney disease (reduced doses), elderly people, pregnant women. Caution in handling as irritant to tissues and skin; glass apparatus should be used for mixing. Cardiac monitoring and monitoring of electrolyte levels is essential during treatment.
Known Side Effects
Suppression of bone marrow function (myelosuppression), hair loss, mucositis. Rarely, tachycardia associated with ventricles of heart. Heart disease and potentially fatal heart failure.
