Anapen
What is it?
A sympathomimetic preparation comprising 0.3mg adrenaline in solution designed for use in a pre- loaded, auto-injection device. Also, ANAPEN JUNIOR, containing 1.5rng adrenaline in solution in a similar device.
Medical Uses
Anaphylaxis (anaphylactic shock).
Dosage
Adults and children weighing more than 30kg; use 0.3mg injection device. Children weighing less than 30kg, use 1.5mg injection device. All injections are intramuscular into the thigh.
Special Care
Pregnancy, elderly persons, people with diabetes, heart and circulatory disease, high blood pressure, over-active thyroid.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Digitalis, MAOIs, qui nidine, TCADs, mercurial diuretics.
Known Side Effects
Gastrointestinal upset, breathing difficulties, sweating, raised heartbeat, palpitations, anxiety, lightheadedness, dizziness.
