Anectine
What is it?
A depolarizing muscle relaxant, the effect of which lasts for only 5 minutes and is used during anaesthesia. It is available as ampoules for injection, and contains 50mg suxamethonium chloride per ml.
Medical Uses
Muscle relaxation during anaesthesia to facilitate the insertion, e. g. of a ventilator, into the windpipe.
Dosage
According to body weight, usually 0.3-1.1mg/kg depending on degree of muscle relaxation needed.
Special Care
Premedication with atropine is desirable. More prolonged muscle paralysis may occur in patients with dual block (after several doses of suxamethonium) and in those with low pseudocholinesterase enzymes in blood plasma, requiring continued artificial ventilation until normal muscle function is resumed.
Avoid Use
Patients with burns and those with serious liver disease.
Manufacturer
Glaxosmithkline.
