Arpicolin
What is it?
An anticholinergic preparation of the drug procyclidine hydrochloride available in the form of a syrup in two strengths, containing 2.5mg or 5mg per 5ml.
Medical Uses
Parkinsonism, including that which is drug-induced.
Dosage
2.5mg-Smg 3 times each day at first. This is increased at 2 to 3 day intervals to a usual maximum of 30mg daily (exceptionally, 60mg).
Special Care
Patients with obstruction of gastrointestinal tract, enlarged prostate gland, heart disease, narrow- angle glaucoma. Drug should be withdrawn gradually.
Avoid Use
Children, patients with a movement disorder called tardive dyskinesia.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Antidepressant and antihistamine drugs. Phenothiazines.
Known Side Effects
Anticholinergic effects, with high doses there may be mental confusion.
