Arthrotec 50

What is it?

An NSAID containing diclofenac sodium, a phenylacetic acid prostaglandin analogue. Arthrotec tablets contain 50mg diclofenac so dium, 200µg misoprostol and are marked with a symbol and Searle 1411. Also, ARTHROTEC 75, containing 75mg of diclofenac sodium and 200µg of misoprostol in each white tablet, marked Searle 1421.

Medical Uses

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

Dosage

Adults, one 50mg tablet twice a day with food increasing to one three times a day if required. Or, one 75mg twice each day with food.

Special Care

Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcer, heart disease, coronary, cerebrovascular, peripheral vascular disease, kidney or liver disorders. Patients taking the drug for a long period should be monitored.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnant women or those planning pregnancy, breast-feeding. Patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, those with allergy to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

NSAIDs, anticoagulants, quinolone, methotrexate, digoxin, lithium, steroids, diuretic drugs, oral hypoglycaemics.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upset, erosion of gastro-intestinal tract, heavy menstrual bleeding and intermenstrual bleeding, dizziness, headache, oedema, nausea, skin reactions.
