Azopt
What is it?
A carbonic anhydrase 11 inhibitor used in the treatment of glaucoma. Contains 10mg of brinzolamide per ml, as eye drops.
Medical Uses
Open angle glaucoma, high blood pressure within the eye. As sole therapy when β-blockers cannot be used or have not worked or in addition to β-blockers.
Dosage
Adults; 1 drop directly into eye two or three times each day.
Special Care
Pregnancy, dry eye conditions (patient must be monitored), people who wear contact lenses, other forms of glaucoma.
Avoid Use
Children, breastfeeding, liver or serious kidney disease, sensitivity to sulfonamides, hyperchloraemic acidosis.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Cyp3a4 inhibitors, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Wait quarter of an hour before inserting contact lenses. Do not use other eye drops for at least 5 minutes.
Known Side Effects
Headache, short-lived discomfort in eye and disturbance of sight, aversion of taste. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the CSM.
