Becloforte

What is it?

A corticosteroid preparation for inhalation containing 250µg beclometasone dipropionate per dose delivered by metered dose aerosol. Also, BECLOFORTE DISKHALER consisting of blisters containing 400µg beclomethasone dipropionate per dose delivered by breath-actuated inhaler.

Medical Uses

Patients with chronic and severe asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis who require high doses of Beclomethasone.

Dosage

Adults only, 500µg twice each day or 250µg 4 times a day. Maybe increased to 500µg 3 or 4 times each day if necessary. Diskhaler, adults, 1 blister twice each day increasing to 2 blisters twice each day if condition is severe.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, patients with active or quiescent pulmonary tuberculosis, those transferring from systemic steroids. Risk of systemic effects such as suppression of adrenal glands if high doses are used for a long period.

Avoid Use

Children.

Known Side Effects

Hoarseness, fungal infections of throat and mouth, paradoxical bronchospasm, allergic reactions.
