Becodisks
What is it?
A corticosteroid preparation available as a dry powder for inhalation with Diskhaler. Beige disks contain 100µg beclometasone dipropionate; brown disks contain 200µg; dark brown disks contain 400µg.
Medical Uses
Prevention of bronchial asthma.
Dosage
Adults, 400µg twice each day or 200µg 3 to 4 times each day. Children, 100µg 2 to 4 times each day or 200µg twice each day.
Special Care
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with active or quiescent pulmonary tuberculosis, those transferring from systemic steroids. Risk of suppression of adrenal glands and other systemic effects with prolonged use. Height of children should be monitored if use is prolonged.
Known Side Effects
Hoarseness, fungal infections of throat and mouth, paradoxical bronchospasm.
