Beconase
What is it?
A corticosteroid preparation containing 50µg beclomethasone delivered by metered dose, nasal spray.
Medical Uses
Allergic rhinitis, both seasonal (e. g. hayfever) and perennial.
Dosage
Adults and children over 6years; 2 sprays in each side of the nose twice each day initially, using half the dose for maintenance. Minimum effective dose should be used to a maximum of 8 each day.
Special Care
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, people who have been taking systemic steroids, tuberculosis, viral and fungal infections. There is a risk of adrenal gland suppression and other systemic effects with long-term use and high doses. Height of children should be monitored if treatment is prolonged.
Avoid Use
Children under 6 years.
Known Side Effects
Irritation of nose, disturbance of sense of taste and smell, nose bleeds. Rarely, perforation of nasal septum (membrane dividing inside of nose).
