Benoral

What is it?

A non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory analgesic preparation comprising an ester of paracetamol and salicylate. Each oblong-shaped, white tablet contains 750mg of benorilate, marked Benoral. Also, BENORAL SUSPENSION, containing 4g of benorilate in each 10ml of solution. Also, BENORAL SACHETS, containing 2g benorilate in powder form, for adding to water.

Medical Uses

Pain and fever, muscle and bone pain, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis.

Dosage

Adults only; pain: 2 tablets three times each day, or 5 to 10ml of suspension twice each day, or 1 sachet with water twice each day. Arthritis: 2 tablets four times each day or 3 to 4 sachets in water daily, in divided doses.

Special Care

Elderly persons, pregnant women (drug should not be taken when full term), digestive problems, high blood pressure, heart failure, liver or kidney disease, history of NSAID or aspirin-induced allergy, history of bronchospcsm. If drug is used longterm, liver and kidney function should be monitored.

Avoid Use

Children, haemophilia, ulcers or other lesions of the lining of the stomach or duodenum.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Antacids with enteric coatings, some other anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosterriids, uricosuric drugs, hypoglycaemics - especially sulphonylureas, anticoagulants containing coumarin, anticonvulsants, spironolactone, methotrexate.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal disturbance, wheezing and other allergic reactions.
