Betnesol Nasal and Ear Drops

What is it?

A corticosteroid preparation containing 0.1% betmethasone sodium phosphate in solution. Also, BETNESOL-N, a combined corticosteroid/antibiotic preparation containing 0.1 % betmethasone sodium phosphate and 0.5% neomycin sulphate in solution.

Medical Uses

Betnesol; non-infected inflamed conditions of the nose or ear. Betnesol-N, prevention of infection and treatment of inflamed conditions of the nose and ear. Short-term treatment only.

Dosage

Nasal inflammation; 2 to 3 drops in each nostril twice each day, or three times, if required. Non-infected ear conditions; 2 to 3 drops of Betnesol in affected ear every 2 to 3 hours, at first. Once condition improves, apply less often as advised by doctor. Prevention of infection; 2 to 3 drops of Betnesol-N in affected ear, 3 to 4 times each day until condition improves and as advised by doctor.

Special Care

Pregnant women, do nottreat infants for extended period.

Avoid Use

If tuberculous, viral or fungal infections are suspected, pus is present or (in ear inflammation), if ear drum may have been perforated.

Known Side Effects

Dryness of inside of nose, sensitisation, risk of deafness. If treatment is prolonged there is a risk of internal (systemic) steroid effects.
