Betnovate
What is it?
A group of moderate to potent corticosteroid preparations containing betamethasone and available as ointment, cream or lotion. Betnovate cream and ointment both contain 0.1% betmethasone (as valerate) ; BETNOVATE SCALP APPLICATION, (0.1%) BETNOVATE C cream and ointment contains an antimicrobial drug (antifungal and antibacterial), 3% clioquinol and 0.1% betamethasone (as valerate); BETNOVATE N cream and ointment Also, contain an antimicrobial (antibacterial) drug, 0.5% neomycin sulphate and 0.1% betmethasone (as valerate) . BETNOVATE RD cream and ointment are less potent containing 0.025% betamethasone (as valerate). Usedfor: eczema, seborrhoeic and contact dermatitis, psoriasis, other skin disorders (lichen simplex and planus). For infected conditions, Betnovate C or N are used depending upon causal organism.
Dosage
Adults, apply sparingly 2 or 3 times each day. More potent preparations may be used first with Betnovate RD then used for maintenance treatment. Children over 1 year same as adult dose.
Special Care
Should not be used extensively or for a prolonged period. Should be used for only 5 days on children or on face. Stop use gradually.
Avoid Use
Children under 1 year, continuous use especially by pregnant women, any conditions caused by ringworm, fungi, viruses, tuberculosis, acne, leg ulcers, scabies.
Known Side Effects
Thinning of skin, suppression of adrenal glands, hair growth, symptoms associated with Cushings syndrome, e. g. reddening of skin on face and neck.
