Brevibloc
What is it?
A cardio-selective β-blocker available in the form of a solution for injection. Brevibloc contains either 10mg esmolol hydrochloride per ml in a 10ml vial or 250mg per ml (for dilution before use) in 10ml ampoules.
Medical Uses
Cardiac arrhythmias of various types, (sinus tachycardia; atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation), raised heartbeat rate and hypertension.
Dosage
50-200µg per kg body weightper minute by intravenous infusion. Special cure: women in late pregnancy, breast-feeding, liver disease, kidney disease, angina, diabetes.
Avoid Use
Asthma, history of obstructive airways disease, heart failure, heart block, heart shock.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Other antiarrhythmic drugs.
