Britlofex
What is it?
A preparation acting on the central (sympathetic) nervous system available as peach, film-coated tablets with 0.2mg lofexidine hydrochloride.
Medical Uses
Control of withdrawal symptoms in patients undergoing detoxification from opioid drug dependency.
Dosage
Adults, 1 tablet twice each day in first instance increasing by 1 or 2 daily if necessary. Maximum daily dose is 12 tablets. Therapy usually should be carried out over a period of 7 to 10 days and then is gradually withdrawn over 2 to 4 days.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breast-feeding, heart and circulatory diseases, recent heart attack or chronic kidney failure, severe bradycardia, depression.
Avoid Use
Children.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Alcohol, sedatives.
Known Side Effects
Dry mouth throat and nose, drowsiness, bradycardia (slow heart beat), hypotension, rebound hypertension on withdrawal.
