Calcidrink
What is it?
A calcium supplement comprising 2.5g of calcium carbonate (equivalent to lg calcium) as granules in a sachet for reconstitution in water.
Medical Uses
Deficiency in calcium, additional therapy in osteoporosis.
Dosage
Adults and children, 1 sachet dissolved in water to be drunk each day.
Avoid Use
Patients in whom osteoporosis has arisen due to being immobilised, severe elevated calcium levels, elevated calcium levels in urine, overactive parathyroid glands, decalcifying tumours, when vitamin d has been taken as overdose, severe kidney failure.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Digitalis, thiazide diuretics. Do not give within three hours of treatment with tetracycline antibiotics, iron or fluoride. Allow two hours to elapse following treatment with biphosphonates.
Known Side Effects
Abdominal wind, constipation, gastrointestinal effects.
