Calcium Sandoz

What is it?

A calcium supplement available as a syrup containing 1.09g calcium glubionate and 0.727g calcium lactobionate per 5ml of liquid.

Medical Uses

Low calcium levels in new born infants, additional therapy in osteoporosis, conditions of calcium deficiency.

Dosage

Adults: supplementation, 15 to 75ml each day; osteoporosis, 55 to 75ml each day. New born infants: 1mmol Ca�� /kg each day in divided doses. Children: 10 to 45ml each day.

Special Care

Diabetes, patients with kidney failure or slightly elevated calcium levels in urine. Urinary levels of calcium should be monitored.

Avoid Use

Elevated calcium blood levels, high levels of calcium in urine, kidney stones, galactosaemia (an inherited disorder of sugar metabolism).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Fluoride supplements, high doses of vitamin D, tetracycline antibiotics, thiazide diuretics.

Known Side Effects

Elevated blood calcium levels, gastrointestinal disturbance.
