Calmurid HC
What is it?
A topical, moderately potent steroid with keratolytic and hydrating agents which have a softening and moistening effect on the skin. Available as a cream containing 1% hydrocortisone, 10% urea and 5% lactic acid.
Medical Uses
Dry eczemas and dermatoses.
Dosage
Wash and dry affected skin, apply thinly twice a day at first and reduce frequency as condition improves.
Special Care
Limit use in children to 5 to 7 days, use extreme care with infants (napkin rash and infantile eczema). Also, use on face should be limited to 5 to 7 days. If stinging occurs, dilute to half-strength with water-based cream for 1 week before reverting to full strength preparation.
Avoid Use
Long-term use especially in pregnant women, patients with acne or skin conditions caused by tuberculosis, viral, fungal, bacterial infections which are untreated or ringworm, leg ulcers. Extensive or long term use should be avoided. Should not be used as long-term preventative treatment.
Known Side Effects
Not usually severe but thinning of skin, lines in skin (striae), blotchy red patches caused by distended blood vessels (capillaries) (telangiectasia), suppression of adrenal glands may occur.
