CAM
What is it?
A preparation which has bronchodilating and anti-inflammatory properties, being a sympathomimetic which acts indirectly. It is available as a sugar-free liquid containing 4mg of ephedrine hydrochloride/ 5ml.
Medical Uses
Bronchospasm in asthma etc.
Dosage
Children: aged 6 months to 2 years, 2.5ml; 2 to 4 years, 5ml; 4 years and over, 10ml. All doses may be given 3 times each day. Adults: 20ml, 3 to 4 times each day.
Special Care
Ischaemic heart disease, diabetes, kidney impairment.
Avoid Use
Coronary heart disease, closed angle glaucoma, high blood pressure, enlarged prostate gland, overactive thyroid gland.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Methyldopa, 13 blockers, MAOIs, reserpine, digoxie, TCADs, guanethidine.
Known Side Effects
Sleeplessness, trembling, anxiety, restlessness, cold hands andfeet, disturbance of heart beat rhythm.
