Capozide

What is it?

A combined thiazide diuretic with an ACE inhibitor, produced in the form of white, scored tablets marked SQUIBB containing 25mg hydrochlorothiazide and 50mg captopril. CAPOZIDE LS tablets are white, scored and contain 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide and 25mg captopril and are marked SQUIBB 536.

Medical Uses

Mild to moderate hypertension in patients who are stable when taking the same proportions of captopril and hydrochlorothiazide individually. Dosage : adults, 1 tablet daily with a possible maximum of 2.Capozide LS, 1 tablet each day.

Special Care

Breastfeeding, patients with kidney disease or receiving dialysis, liver disease, gout, collagen vascular disease, diabetes, undergoing anaesthesia or surgery. Kidney function, urinary protein and white blood cell count should be checked before and during treatment. Electrolyte levels must be monitored.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnant women, anuria (absence of urination).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

NSAIDs, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, immunosuppressants, vasodilators, allopurinol, probenecid, clonidine, procainamide.

Known Side Effects

Blood dyscrasias (blood changes), low blood pressure, rash, proteinuria (protein in urine), loss of sensation of taste, sensitivity to light, pancreatitis, tiredness, thiazide side effects, rarely, a cough.
