Caprin
What is it?
An anti-platelet, NSAID salicylate containing 75g of aspirin in each pink, enteric-coated tablet, marked with strength.
Medical Uses
Secondary prevention of clotting in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease and after surgery, rheumatic and other inflammatory disorders.
Dosage
Adults, prevention of clotting: 1 to 2 tablets each day; rheumatic/inflammatory disorders: 3 tablets to be taken before meals 3 to 4 times each day.
Special Care
Elderly, pregnancy (avoid if near to term), history of allergy to aspirin or NSAIDs, history of bronchospasm, high blood pressure, heart failure, acid indigestion, liver or kidney disease. If treatment is prolonged, liver and kidney function must be monitored.
Avoid Use
Children under 12 years (risk of Reye's syndrome) except in special circumstances (eg Still's disease), when treatment must be closely supervised and monitored. Breast- feeding, digestive ulcers or bleeding or lesions.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Hypoglycaemic drugs (especially sulphonylureas), coumarin anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, methotrexate, enteric-coated antacids, corticosteroids, spironolactone, some other anti-inflammatory drugs.
Known Side Effects
Gastrointestinal upset, bronchospasm and allergic reactions.
