Carace 10 Plus
What is it?
An ACE inhibitor with a thiazide diuretic produced in the form of blue, hexagonal tablets marked 145 containing 10mg lisinopril and 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide. CARACE 20 PLUS are yellow, hexagonal scored tablets, marked MSD 140, containing 20mg lisinopril and 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide.
Medical Uses
Mild to moderate hypertension in patients who are stable when taking the same proportions of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide individually.
Dosage
Adults, 1 Carace 10 Plus or Carace 20 Plus each day with a possible maximum of 2 tablets.
Special Care
Patients with liver or kidney disease receiving dialysis, heart and circulatory diseases, gout, hyperuricaemia (excess uric acid levels in blood), undergoing anaesthesia or surgery, with imbalances in salts (electrolytes) or fluid levels.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breast- feeding, anuria (absence of urination), angioneurotic oedema as a result of previous ACE inhibitor treatment, elevated potassium levels in blood, aortic stenosis.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Potassium supplements, hypoglycaemics, NSAIDs, lithium, tubocurarine.
Known Side Effects
Cough, headache, nausea, weariness, low blood pressure, gastrointestinal upset and diarrhoea, angio-neurotic oedema, impotence, dizziness.
