cd Cyclimorph
What is it?
A strong analgesic preparation which combines an opiate with an anti-emetic and is available as solutions of 2 different strengths in 1ml ampoules for injection. Cyclimorph 10 contains 10mg morphine tartrate and 50mg cyclizine tartrate per ml; CYCLIMORPH 15 contains 15mg morphine tartrate and 50mg cyclizine tartrate per ml.
Medical Uses
Acute and chronic severe intractable pain where control of sickness/nausea is Also, required.
Dosage
Adults, 10 to 20mg given by subcutaneous, intravenous or intramuscular injection with at least a 4 hour interval between doses. The maximum is 3 doses in 24 hours.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, women in labour, elderly, seriously ill patients, diabetes, hypothyroidism, serious heart failure, obstruction of gastrointestinal tract, shock, glaucoma, enlarged prostate gland, underactive pituitary gland, insufficient hormonal output from cortex of adrenal glands.
Avoid Use
Children, patients with blocked airways or respiratory depression, head injury, elevated pressure within skull, serious liver disease, moderate to serious kidney disorders, ulcerative colitis, heart failure associated with chronic lung disease, serious intoxication with alcohol.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Central nervous system sedatives, MAOIs, diuretics, anticholinergic drugs, phenothiazines, propanolol.
Known Side Effects
Drug dependence and tolerance may develop, constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, blurring of vision, low blood pressure on standing up, sleepiness.
