Ceporex
What is it?
A cephalosporin antibiotic produced in the form of tablets, capsules and syrup. Pink, film-coated tablets, containing 250mg, 500mg cephnlexin are marked with name and strength. CEPOREX CAPSULES coloured grey/caramel contain 250mg and 500mg and are marked with capsule name and strength. CEPOREX SYRUP (produced as granules for reconstitution), contains 125mg, 250mg and 500mg per 5ml when made up with water.
Medical Uses
Urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, ear, nose and throat infections, respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections.
Dosage
Adults, usual dose is lg twice each day but ig three times each day or 3g twice daily may be given in severe cases. For prevention of urinary tract infections, 125mg may be taken each night, continuing for several months, if needed. Children, under 12 months, 62.5mg-125mg twice each day; 1 to 6 years, 250-500mg each day; 7 to 12 years, 500mg to lg twice each day. If infection is very severe, 100mg per kg of body weight may be given each day to a maximum daily dose of 4g.
Special Care
Patients with allergy to penicillins or kidney disease.
Known Side Effects
Allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disorders, pseudomembranous colitis, skin rashes and other severe skin effects, neutropenia (deficiency in certain white blood cells), Stevens Johnson syndrome.
