Ciloxan

What is it?

An antibiotic preparation available as eye drops containing 0.3% ciprofloxacin.

Medical Uses

Superficial bacterial eye infections and neighbouring tissues, ulcers on the cornea.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 1 year, conjunctivitis and eye infections, 1 to 2 drops 4 times each day; if severe, 1 to 2 drops every 2 hours through the day for 2 days, then normal dose. Corneal ulcers, first day, 2 drops every 15 minutes for 6 hours, followed by 2 drops every half hour for 18 hours; second day, 2 drops every 2 hours. 3rd to 14th day, 2 drops every 4 hours, continuing, if necessary, for a maximum period of 3 weeks.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Avoid Use

Children aged under 12 months, patients with soft contact lenses.

Known Side Effects

Short-lived irritation of eye, bitter taste in mouth, skin rashes (withdraw treatment).
