Clostet
What is it?
A preparation of tetanus toxoid vaccine (comprising at least 40iu per 0.5ml) adsorbed onto aluminium hydroxide and contained in pre-filled (0.5ml) syringes.
Medical Uses
Immunization against tetanus and for 'booster' injections to reinforce immunity.
Dosage
Adults, a course of 0.5ml by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection given a total of 3 times at 4 week intervals. After 10 years, a 'booster' reinforcing dose of 0.5ml may be given by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. If an injury is received which might give rise to tetanus, a booster reinforcing dose should be given to patients previously immunized. Those who have not, should be given a first dose of the primary course and an injection of antitetanus immunoglobin at a different site. Children normally receive a combined triple vaccine consisting of adsorbed tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine, and can later receive booster reinforcing doses against tetanus. Vaccine (either primary course or reinforcing dose) may be given as protective treatment in the event of a wound, if patient's state of immunisation is in doubt or if considered advisable.
Special Care
Allergic reactions especially in persons receiving vaccine within 1 year of receiving a previous booster dose. Normally, 10 years should have elapsed before a reinforcing dose is given.
Avoid Use
Patients with serious infections unless there is a wound likely to be prone to tetanus.
Known Side Effects
Malaise, fever, slight soreness and local reactions.
Manufacturer
Evans Vaccines.
