Colestid

What is it?

A form of a resin which is a bile acid sequestrant acting as a lipid- lowering agent. Colestid is available as 5g of granules in sachets containing eolestipol hydrochloride. Also, COLESTID ORANGE granules consisting of 5g orange-flavoured powder containing colestipol hydrochloride with aspartame. Usedfor: type II hyperlipoproteinaemias(high fat/proteinlevels in blood).

Dosage

Adults, 5-30g each day in 1 or 2 divided doses taken with liquid. Children, consult manufacturer.

Special Care

Pregnancy, nursing mothers, additional vitamins A, D and K may be needed.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Diuretics, digitalis, antibiotics. Any drug should be taken 1 hour before or 4 hours after Colestid as there may be interference with absorption.

Constipation.
