Combivent
What is it?
A bronchodilator and anti- inflammatory preparation which combines a selective lz agonist with an antimuscarin. It is available as a metered dose aerosol containing 100µg of salbutamol and 20µg of ipratropium bromide per dose. Also, COMBIVENT UDV for use with a nebuliser containing 2.5mg of salbutamol and 500µg of ipratropium bromide per ml of preservative-free solution.
Medical Uses
Bronchospasm in COPD.
Dosage
Adults, Combivent, 2 puffs 4 times each day; Combivent UDV, 1 unit used with nebuliser 3 to 4 times each day.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe heart or circulatory disorders, recent heart attack, enlarged prostate gland, overactive thyroid gland, glaucoma, diabetes.
Avoid Use
Children.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Sympathomimetics, anaesthetics, corticosteroids, anticholinergics, diuretics, xanthines, antidepressants, β-blockers.
Known Side Effects
Headache, dizziness, trembling, dry mouth, nausea, rapid heart beat, heart arrhythmia, low blood potassium levels, irritation of throat, retention of urine.
