Cordilox
What is it?
An antihypertensive and antiarrhythmic preparation which is a class I calcium antagonist produced as tablets of 3 different strengths; yellow, film-coated tablets, marked with the name and strength, contain 40mg, 80mg and 120mg of verapamil hydrochloride. Also, CORDILOX 160, yellow, film-coated tablets marked Cordilox 160, containing 160mg of verapamil hydrochloride. Also, CORDILOX INTRAVENOUS contains 2.5mg verapamil hydrochloride per ml in ampoules for injection.
Medical Uses
Cordilox: supraventricular heart arrhythmias, angina. Cordilox 160: mild to moderate high blood pressure; CordiloxI. V: supraventricular heart arrhythmias.
Dosage
Cordilox and Cordilox LV. , heartarrhythmias, adults: 40-120mg 3 times each day; children: under 2 years, 20mg 2 or 3 times daily; over 2 years, 40-120mg 2 or 3 times each day. Cordilox LV. , adults and children, according to manufacturers' specifications and under specialist supervision. Cordilox 160, hypertension, adults, 1 tablet twice each day; children, up to 10mg per kg. of body weight each day in divided doses. Cordilox, angina, adults only, 120mg 3 times each day.
Special Care
Patients with weak heart should take digitalis and diuretics; persons with first degree heart block, kidney or liver disease, heart attack, heart conduction disorders, bradycardia, hypotension.
Avoid Use
Severe bradycardia, second or third degree heart block, uncompensated heart failure, heart shock, sick - sinus syndrome.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
β-blockers, grapefruit juice, digoxin, quinidine.
Known Side Effects
Flushes, dizziness, headache, tiredness, constipation.
