Coversyl Plus
What is it?
A preparation which combines an ACE inhibitor and diuretic available as oblong shaped, white tablets containing 4mg of perindopril terbutylamine and 1.25mg of indapamide.
Medical Uses
High blood pressure in patients whose condition has not responded to treatment with perindopril alone.
Dosage
Adults, 1 tablet taken eachmorning before eating breakfast.
Special Care
Patients undergoing surgery or anaesthesia, those with lowered immunity, kidney disease. Kidney function must be monitored before treatments starts and during treatment. Also, electrolyte and fluid levels must be monitored.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, dialysis patients, serious liver or kidney disease, low or high blood potassium levels, uncompensated heart failure, allergy to sulfonamide drugs, angioneurotic oedema caused by previous ACE therapy, inherited or any other angioneurotic oedema, stenosis (narrowing) of renal artery.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Drugs that prolong QT interval or cause torsade de pointes (forms of heart drug), antidiabetic drugs, NSAIDs, potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, anaesthetics, immunosuppressants, cyclosporin, antihypertensives, allopurinol, laxatives, amphotericin, tricyclic antidepressants, baclofen, cardiac glycosides, calcium salts, antiarrhythmics, neuroleptics, lithium, corticosteroids.
Known Side Effects
Nausea, abdominal and other pains, anorexia, weakness, headaches, alteration in sense of taste, constipation, cramps, sleep disturbance, mood swings, rash, low blood pressure, dry mouth. Rarely, pancreatitis, angioneurotic oedema. any adverse side effects must be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
