Coversyl
What is it?
An antihypertensive preparation and ACE inhibitor produced as tablets of 2 different strengths. White tablets contain 2mg perindopril tertbutylamine and white, scored oblong tablets contain 4mg.
Medical Uses
Additional therapy with digitalis and/or diuretics in congestive heart failure, rerovascular and essential hypertension. .
Dosage
Adults, heart failure, treatment should start in hospital under close supervision with 2mg once daily taken in the morning increasing to 4mg once each day. Withdraw airy diuretic 3 days before the start of treatment and resume later, if needed. Hypertension, 2mg once each day before food increasing to daily maintenance dose of 4mg (8mg once each day is maximum dose). Elderly persons should take a reduced dose of 2mg each day under close medical supervision.
Special Care
Patients with kidney disorders or receiving dialysis. Kidney function should be monitored before and during treatment; patients under- going anaesthesia and surgery.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breast- feeding.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Tricyclic antidepressants, lithium, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, NSAIDs, neuroleptic agents, antidiabetic drugs, antihypertensives.
Known Side Effects
Hypotension, skin rashes and itching, flushing, loss of sense of taste, angioneurotic oedema, headache, malaise, fatigue, nausea, pain in abdomen, weakness, slight cough, blood changes, protein in urine.
