Daktacort
What is it?
An antifungal/antibaeterial agent with mild steroid, comprising miconazole nitrate (2%) and hydrocortisone (1%). Available as cream and ointment.
Medical Uses
Fungal and bacterial (Gram-positive) infections where there is associated inflammation.
Dosage
To be applied 2 or 3 times daily.
Special Care
Use on face or for children should be limited to 5 days maximum, infants when nappy area is being treated, psoriasis (monitor). Withdraw gradually after prolonged use.
Avoid Use
On acne, leg ulcers, tuberculous, ringworm or viral skin disease, pen-oral dermatitis, untreated infections whether fungal or bacterial. Extensive or prolonged use during pregnancy.
Known Side Effects
Skin atrophy, striae (lines) and telangiectasia (permanent widening of superficial blood vessels), suppression of adrenal glands, Cushingoid changes (as in Cushing's syndrome).
