Dalacin C

What is it?

An antibacterial preparation which is a lincosamide, available as capsules in two different strengths. Purple capsules, marked P&U 331 contain 75mg of clindamycin as hydrochloride; purple/maroon capsules, marked P&U 225 contain 150mg of clindamycin as hydrochloride. Also, DALACIN PHOSPHATE, available as a solution in ampoules for injection containing 150mg per ml, of clindamycin phosphate.

Medical Uses

Serious infections sensitive to clindamycin.

Dosage

Adults, 150-450-g every 6 hours. Children, 3 to 6mg per kg of body weight every 6 hours. Dalacin phosphate, adults, 600mg-2.7g in divided doses each day, by intramuscular injection or intravenous infusion. Children over 1 month, 15-40mg/kg daily in divided doses, in same way as for adults.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, kidney or liver disease; cease use should colitis or diarrhoea occur.

Avoid Use

In cases of lincomycin sensitivity.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Neuromuscular blocking agents.

Known Side Effects

Jaundice and blood disorders, pseudomembranous colitis, gastro-intestinal upsets.
