What is it?

An anti-malarial, diamino pyrimidine preparation available as scored, white tablets containing 25mg of pyrimethamine and marked WELLCOME A3A.

Medical Uses

Prevention of malaria in people living in areas affected by malaria butwhere there is no resistance of the causal organism to pyrimethamine. Not suitable for prevention/protection for people visiting the area.

Dosage

Adults and children aged over 10 years, 1 tablet once each week; children aged 5 to 10 years, 1/2 a tablet each week. All dosages should be continued for one month after leaving the affected area.

Special Care

Pregnant women should receive folate supplements, breast- feeding, liver or kidney disease.

Avoid Use

Children under 5 years.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Lorazepam, cotrimoxazole.

Known Side Effects

Macrocytic anaemia, rashes.
