Depixol
What is it?
A thioxanthene antipsychotic drug available in several forms. Sugarcoated, yellow tablets marked LUNDBECK contain 3mg flupenthixol dihydrochloride. DEPIXOL INJECTION is available as the decanoate of flupenthixol in ampoules, vials and syringes containing 20mg per ml. DEPIXOL CONC. and DEPIXOL LOW VOLUME are concentrated forms of the decanoate, 100mg per ml and 200mg per ml respectively, for injection. All as oily injection.
Medical Uses
Schizophrenia and other mental disorders.
Dosage
Adults, tablets, 1 to 3 tablets twice each day with a maximum daily dose of 6 tablets. Depixol injection, a deep intramuscular injection of 2040mg every 2 to 4 weeks; Depixol Cone. and Depixol Low Volume, usual dose in the order of 50mg every month or up to 300mg every 2 wee, all by deep intramuscular injection.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly, Parkinsonism, kidney, liver, respiratory or cardiovascular disease and anyone with an intolerance to neuroleptic drugs taken by mouth.
Avoid Use
Children, patients who arecomatose, excitable or overactive.
