Dermovate
What is it?
A highly potent topical steroid preparation available as ointment and cream containing 0.05% clobetasol proprionate. Also, DERMOVATE SCALP APPLICATION, available as an alcohol-based solution containing 0.05% clobetasol propriorlate. Also, DERMOVATE-NN, combining ahighly potent topical steroid with an antibacterial and an antifungal agent. Available as ointment and cream containing 0.05% clobetasol proprionate, 0.5% neomycin sulphate and 100,000 units per gram of nystatin.
Medical Uses
Dermovate, inflamed dermatitis, severe, persistent eczema that is hard to control, psoriasis, discoid lupus erythematosus (an autoimmune disorder affecting the skin), lichen planus (a chronic skin disorder of unknown cause). Dermovate Scalp Application, skin disorders affecting the scalp. Dermovate-NN, as for Dermovate but when infection is Also, present or suspected to be present.
Dosage
Dermovate, adults, apply thinly once or twice each day for up to one month; children over 1 year, as for adult but use for no more than 5 days. Dermovate scalp application, adults and children over 1 year, apply sparingly each night and morning until symptoms improve. Dermovate-NN, adults and children over 1 year, apply thinly up to 2 times each day.
Special Care
Use on face or for children should be limited to 5 days maximum, infants when nappy area is being treated, psoriasis (monitor). Withdraw gradually after prolonged use.
Avoid Use
Children aged less than 1 year, on acne, leg ulcers, tuberculous, ringworm or viral skin disease, pen-oral dermatitis, untreated infections whether fungal or bacterial. Extensive or prolonged use during pregnancy.
Known Side Effects
Skin atrophy, striae (lines) and telangiectasia (permanent widening of superficial blood vessels), suppression of adrenal glands, Cushingoid changes (as in Cushing's syndrome).
