Destolit
What is it?
A bile acid available as scored white tablets containing 150mg of ursodeoxycholic acid marked DESTOLIT.
Medical Uses
Dissolution of small cholesterol gallstones.
Dosage
Adults and children, 8 to 10mg per kg of body weight in two divided doses after meals. 1 dose should always follow the evening meal. Treatment should be continued for 3 to 4 months after stones have been dissolved.
Avoid Use
Active stomach or duodenal ulcer, liver and intestine conditions affecting recycling of bile between intestine and liver, gall bladder that is not functioning, women, if not using contraception (non-hormonal methods ideally).
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Oestrogens; oral contraceptives; agents lowering cholesterol levels.
