Detrunorm

What is it?

A preparation which has anticholinergic and spasmolytic properties, available as sugar-coated, pink tablets containing 15mg of propiverine hydrochloride. Usedfor: inherent unstable bladder conditions or those possibly arising from spinal cord injury or other disorder.

Dosage

Elderly patients, 1 tablet twice each day with a maximum daily dose of 3 tablets; other adults, 1 tablet 2 to 3 times each day with a maximum daily dose of 4 tablets.

Special Care

Enlarged prostate gland, overactive thyroid gland, serious congestive heart failure, disease of coronary arteries, hiatus hernia and reflux oesophagitis, neuropathy (nerve damage/disease) associated with the autonomic nervous system, raised heart beat rate and heart arrhythmias.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver or serious kidney disease, intestinal atony (weakness/ reduced functioning), serious obstruction in outflow from bladder, obstruction of bowel, toxic megacolon, serious ulcerative colitis, myasthenia gravis (serious, autoimmune disorder), glaucoma.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Amantadine, sedatives, anticholinergics, TCADs, isoniazid, tranquillisers, cholinomimetics, I-agonists, neuroleptics.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upsets, dry mouth, fatigue, drowsiness, blurring of vision, retention of urine.
