Detrusitol XL

What is it?

An anticholinergic preparation available as sustained-release, blue capsules marked with strength and symbol, containing 4mg of tolterodine tartrate. Also, DETRUSITOL, available as film-coated, white tablets containing 1mg or 2mg of tolterodine tartrate, marked TO or DT, respectively.

Medical Uses

Urinary frequency or urge incontinence caused by unstable bladder conditions.

Dosage

Adults, Detrusitol XL, 1 tablet each day; Detrusitol, 2mg twice each day.

Special Care

Liver or kidney disorders, hiatus hernia, neuropathy (nerve disease/damage) affecting the autonomic nervous system, obstruction of outlet of bladder or of gastrointestinal system.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, narrow angle glaucoma which is uncontrolled, toxic megacolon, retention of urine, serious ulcerative colitis, myasthenia gravis (a severe, autoimmune disorder).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Metoclopramide, anticholinergics, cisapride, macrolides, azole antifungals and other similar CYP3A4 inhibitors, muscarine agonists.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upsets, nervousness, sleepiness, headaches, weakness, numbness, tingling, pins and needles', dry mouth, dry and dull eyes (xeropthalmia).
