Dicloflex
What is it?
A Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), phenylacetic acid, available as enteric-coated, brown tablets in two different strengths containing 25mg or 50mg of diclofenac sodium. Also, DICLOFLEX RETARD, available as sustained-release, pink tablets containing 100mg of diclofenac sodium. Also, DICLOFLEX SR, available as sustained-release pink tablets containing 75mg of diclofenac sodium, all marked DILL 75.
Medical Uses
Osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, gout attacks, muscle and skeletal disorders, strains, sprains, back and Joint pain.
Dosage
Adults, Dicloflex, 75 to 100mg each day in divided doses; Dicloflex Retard, 1 tablet each day taken with a meal; Dicloflex SR, 1 to 2 tablets each day taken with a meal. Children, Dicloflex only, 1 to 3mg per kg of body weight each day in divided doses - not to be given to infants.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly persons, liver, kidney or heart disorders, blood disorders or abnormalities, history of gastrointestinal ulcers or lesions, liver porphyria (inherited disorder involving the abnormal production of porphyrins). Patients receiving long-term treatment require monitoring.
Avoid Use
Final 3 months of pregnancy, known allergy to aspirin or NSAIDs, active peptic ulcer.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Diuretics, NSAIDs, salicylates, cyclosporin, antidiabetic drugs, steroids, quinolones, lithium, anticoagulants, methotrexate.
Known Side Effects
Short-lived stomach pain, fluid retention, headache. Rarely, stomach ulcer, blood changes, skin effects, liver and kidney dysfunction.
