Diclomax Retard
What is it?
A Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), phenylacetic acid, available as sustained-release white capsules containing 100mg of diclofenac sodium, marked with name. Used for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, musculoskeletal disorders such as sprains and strains, back pains. Acute gout. Also, DICLOMAX SR, available as sustained-release, yellow capsules containing 75mg of diclofenac sodium.
Dosage
Adults, Diclomtix Retard, 1 capsule each day with food; Diclomax SR, 1 or 2 capsules each day, either as a single or divided dose.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly persons, kidney, liver or heart disorders, blood disorders, hepatic porphyria (production of excess porphyrins in the liver producing abdominal pain, neuropathy and photosensitivity), and those with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers or lesions. Patients on long-term treatment should be monitored.
Avoid Use
Children, active peptic ulcer, asthma, aspirin or anti-inflammatory drug-induced allergy, during last 3 months of pregnancy.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Steroids, NSAIDs, anticoagulants, antidiabetic drugs, quinolones, diuretics, salicylates, lithium, digoxin, methotrexate, cyclosporin.
Known Side Effects
Headache, fluid retention, gastrointestinal upsets, short-lived stomach pain. Rarely, stomach ulcer, liver malfunction, skin reactions.
