Dimotane Plus

What is it?

A combined sympathomimetic (i. e. mimics effects of stimulation of the sympathetic (autonomic) nervous system)/antihistamine preparation available as a liquid containing 30mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride per 5ml and 4mg of brompheniramine maleate per 5ml. Also, DIMOTANE ELIXIR, containing 2mg of brompheniramine maleate per 5ml. Also, DIMOTANE PLUS PAEDIATRIC, containing 15mg of pseudoephedrine per 5ml and 2mg of brompheniramine maleate per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Allergic rhinitis (hayfevier).

Dosage

Dimotane Plus, adults and children over 12 years, 10ml 3 times each day; children aged 6 to 12 years, 5ml three times each day. Dimotane Elixir, adults and children over 12 years, 10 to 20ml 3 to 4 times each day; children aged less than 3 years, 0.4 to 1mg per kg of body weight in 4 divided doses each day; aged 3 to 6 years, 5ml 3 to 4 times each day; aged 6 to 12 years, 5 to 10ml 3 to 4 times each day. Dimotane Plus Paediatric, children aged 2 to 5 years, 5ml three times each day; aged 6 to 12 years, 10ml three times each day.

Special Care

Pregnancy, asthma.

Avoid Use

Children under 2 years. Dimotane Plus, heart and circulatory disease, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid gland, glaucoma, epilepsy, brain damaged patients, those in comatose or pre-comatose states.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Anticholinergics, other sympathomimetics, MAOIs, NSAIDs, digoxin, tricyclic antidepressants, drugs that depress the central nervous system, agents that block adrenergic nerve transmission.

Known Side Effects

Impaired reactions and dexterity, drowsiness; stimulant in children and more rarely in adults.
