What is it?

An antihypertensive and angiotensin II antagonist, available as capsules in three different strengths; grey capsules marked CG HBH contain 40mg of valsartan; light grey/pink capsules, marked CG FZF contain 80mg of valsartan and dark grey/pink capsules marked CG GOG contain 160mg of valsartan.

Medical Uses

Hypertension.

Dosage

80mg once each day, increasing to a maximum of 160mg, if necessary. Start with 40mg for the elderly.

Special Care

Liver or kidney disease, narrowing of renal artery, salt or volume depletion, severe deficiencies of heart function. Blood potssium levels should be monitored in elderly patients and in kidney patients taking taking potassium supplements.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, cirrhosis, bile obstructions, severe liver disease.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Salt substitutes, potassium supplements, potassium sparing diuretics.
