Dipentum
What is it?
An aminosalicylate available as caramel coloured capsules containing 250mg of olsalazine sodium. Also, DIPENTUM TABLETS, scored, yellow, capsule-shaped tablets containing 500mg of olsalazine sodium, all marked 110 and KPh.
Medical Uses
Acute, mild, ulcerative colitis and to maintain remission of this condition.
Dosage
Adults, lg each day at first taken after meals and in divided doses. If necessary, increase gradually over 1 week to a maximum of 3g but maximum single dose is 1g. for maintenance of remission, 500mg twice each day after meals.
Special Care
Pregnancy; patients should report unexplained bruising or bleeding, sore throat, malaise. If blood changes suspected, blood tests will be required.
Avoid Use
Severe kidney disease, hypersensitivity to salicylates.
Known Side Effects
Headache, rash, arthralgia (joint pain), gastrointestinal upset; rarely, blood changes.
