Dirythmin SA

What is it?

A Class1, sntiarrhvthmic, preparation, available as film-coated, white, sustained-release tablets, marked A over DR, containing 150mg of disopyramide phosphate.

Medical Uses

Heart arrhythmias.

Dosage

2 every 12 hours, with a maximum of 5 tablets each day.

Special Care

Pregnancy, heart failure (patient requires prior treatment with digitalis), kidney and liver failure, digitalis intoxication, enlarged prostate gland, glaucoma, urine retention, low blood potassium levels, 1st degree AV (heart) block, myasthenia gravis (a severe autoimmune disorder).

Avoid Use

Children, heart muscle disease/enlarged heart, cardiogenic shock (low cardiac output), low blond pressure, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block when patient is not fitted with pacemaker.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

β-blockers, rifampicin, other antiarrhythmics in the same class, erythromycin, agents causing potassium reduction, phenytoin, anticholinergics (inhibiting the action of acetylcholine).

Known Side Effects

Anticholinergic effects - dry mouth, blurring of vision, retention of urine, gastrointestinal effects, constipation, low blood pressure, low blood sugar and low blood potassium levels.
