Distaclor MR

What is it?

An antibiotic/antibacterial preparation of cephalosporin, available as blue sustained-release tablets containing 375mg of cefaclor as monohydrate, marked Lilly TA4220 or Distaclor MR 375. Also, DISTACLOR CAPSULES, grey/purple capsules containing 500mg of Cefaclor and marked Lilly 3062. Also, DISTACLOR SUSPENSION, available as granules for reconstitution with water, in two strengths, containing 125mg or 250mg Cefcclor per 5ml of liquid.

Medical Uses

Infections of the skin, soft tissue and respiratory tract, otitis media, infections of the urinary tract.

Dosage

Adults, Distaclor MR, 1 tablet twice each day; 2 twice each day for the treatment of pneumonia. Capsules and Suspension, 250mg every 8 hours up to a maximum of 4g per day. Children, Suspension, aged from 1 month to 1 year, 62.5mg; aged 1 to 5 years, 125mg; aged over 5 years, 250mg. All 3 times each day to a maximum of 1g.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, hypersensitivity to penicillins.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Anticoagulants, antacids, probenecid.

Known Side Effects

Gastro-intestinal upsets, hypersensitivity reactions, pseudomembranous colitis (a severe form of colitis).

Special Care

Pregnancy, kidney or liverdisease, elderly persons.

Avoid Use

Children, persons with his tory of drug abuse or suicide risk.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Anticonvulsants, anticoagulants, alcohol, depressants of the central nervous system.

Known Side Effects

Constipation, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, abdominal pain, rash; tolerance and dependence can develop.
