Domperamol

What is it?

A pain-reliever and antidopaminergic (countering the effects of dopamine) preparation containing 500mg of paracetamol and 1.0mg ofdomperidone (maleate) available as film-coated, white, capsule-shaped tablets marked 51L.

Medical Uses

Sudden attacks of mild to moderate migraine.

Dosage

Adults, 2 capsules at the beginning of the attack followed by 2 every four hours if necessary to a maximum of 8 in 24 hours.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe liver or kidney disease (non- cirrhotic).

Avoid Use

Children.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Opioids, metoclopramide, cholestyramine (antidiarrhoeal), antimuscarinics, dopamine agonists.

Known Side Effects

Rash, allergy, lessened libido, galactorrhoea (production of milk not due to childbirth or breastfeeding), gynaecomastia (temporary abnormal enlargement of breasts in men), raised prolactin (hormone stimulating milk production) levels in blood. In rare cases, extrapyramidal responses (involuntary movements, changes in posture and muscle tone etc. ).
